Kami Rita Sherpa summits Everest for a record 32nd time
The Everest record-holder extends his own mark, while Lhakpa Sherpa sets a women's record with an 11th ascent.

Nepal's mountains owe their reputation to the Sherpa who work them — and this spring two of them rewrote the record books. Kami Rita Sherpa reached the summit of Everest for an astonishing 32nd time, extending a record that is entirely his own.
In the women's category, Lhakpa Sherpa, from the Makalu region of Sankhuwasabha, logged her 11th Everest ascent — the most by any woman.
What this means for trekkers
Behind every safe trek is a Sherpa team like theirs. When you walk to Everest Base Camp, you pass through their home valleys, supported by guides from the same communities — which is exactly why choosing a local, fair-wage operator matters.
