Why autumn 2027 wins

The monsoon washes the dust out of the air, and the weeks that follow deliver the most dependable mountain weather Nepal offers all year. From early October to mid-November 2027 you get the clearest skies, the firmest trails and — crucially — the most stable Kathmandu–Lukla flights. That flight matters more than people expect: Lukla is weather-dependent, and delays cluster in the marginal shoulder periods, not in the settled heart of autumn. Why spring is a strong second

Mid-March to the end of April 2027 is the other reliable window. Days are warmer at lower elevations, the rhododendron forests below Namche come into bloom, and the trail has a softer, greener character. The trade-off is haze: afternoons can turn milky as the pre-monsoon heat builds, so mornings become your reward for early starts. It is a genuinely excellent time to trek — just a notch behind autumn on sky clarity and flight reliability.

The festival timing you must plan around

Autumn is also Nepal's festival season, and in 2027 that has a direct, practical effect on your trek. Dashain — the country's biggest holiday — has its main Tika day (Vijaya Dashami) on Saturday 9 October 2027, with Tihar following in late October.

Around Dashain, Nepalis travel home to their villages. Domestic flight seats, long-distance buses, and even guide and porter availability all tighten as the whole country moves at once. In 2027 that crunch sits in early October.
