Sagarmatha National Park Permit Cost 2026
+ Everest Base Camp Permits & Fees
For the Everest Base Camp trek in 2026 you need two permits: the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit (NPR 3,000 ≈ US$22) and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit (NPR 3,000 ≈ US$22) — about NPR 6,000 / US$45 total. TIMS is no longer required in the Khumbu.

The Sagarmatha National Park permit costs NPR 3,000 (≈ US$22) per foreign trekker in 2026. The Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit costs NPR 3,000 (≈ US$22), raised from NPR 2,000 in 2025. That is about NPR 6,000 / US$45 total for the Everest Base Camp trek. TIMS is not required in the Khumbu — it was replaced by the rural-municipality permit in 2018.
SAARC nationals: NPR 1,500 for Sagarmatha NP. Nepali citizens: NPR 100. VAT was absorbed into national-park fees in 2019, so nothing is added on top. Fees are set in Nepali rupees and reviewed periodically — USD figures are approximate at ~NPR 133/US$. Since 2023 a licensed guide is also required. We confirm the live rate before you trek.

Do you need a TIMS card for EBC? No. Do you need a guide? Yes.
The TIMS card is not required for the standard Everest Base Camp trek — the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit replaced it in 2018. Older guides that still list TIMS for EBC are out of date. However, since April 2023 Nepal requires national-park trekkers to use a licensed guide, with permits arranged through a registered agency. TIMS does still apply on other treks such as the Annapurna region (ACAP + TIMS).

How to get your EBC permits — step by step
Sagarmatha National Park permit — Kathmandu or Monjo
Buy it at the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu (Bhrikuti Mandap) before your Lukla flight, or at the park checkpoint at Monjo on day 2–3 of the trek. NPR 3,000 (≈ US$22), inclusive of VAT. Bring your original passport and a passport photo.
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit — at Lukla
After landing in Lukla you pay the NPR 3,000 (≈ US$22) rural-municipality permit at the local office. Keep cash in Nepali rupees ready — card payment is not always available on the trail.
No TIMS needed — but a licensed guide is required
TIMS is not required for the Khumbu, so there is no TIMS step for EBC. Since 2023, though, you must trek with a licensed guide. Booking with Travel Himalaya Nepal covers both permits and your NMA-certified guide in one package price.
Carry both permits at every checkpoint
Wardens check permits at Lukla, Monjo (national park entry), Namche Bazaar and other points up to Base Camp. Keep both documents in an accessible pocket, not buried in your duffel.
