Altitude Profile
Peak: 2,607 m · Day 3The Tamang Heritage Trek is a 7-day cultural circuit through the Tamang homeland north of Kathmandu — visiting communities that have maintained their Tibetan-Buddhist culture, language, and architecture almost entirely intact, just 80 km from Nepal's capital. The route visits Gatlang (2,238 m), Nagthali Hill (3,165 m), Tatopani, and Thuman — Tamang villages with distinctive mani walls, ancient gompas, and homestay culture developed specifically to direct trekking benefit into these communities.
Nagthali Hill provides an unexpected panorama of the Langtang range and Ganesh Himal (7,422 m) from a forested hilltop that few trekkers visit. The return via Briddim passes through more Tamang settlements with excellent community-run lodges. Maximum altitude is 3,165 m — appropriate for any reasonably fit walker with no prior altitude experience.
Best seasons: October–November and March–May. Start: Kathmandu–Syabrubesi bus (included). Max altitude: Nagthali 3,165 m.

Absolut empfehlenswert! (The Tamang Heritage Trek is an absolute highlight for culturally interested travelers. Our guide was himself Tamang and gave us deep insights into traditions, music and everyday life.)

(This trek is a window into authentic Tamang culture. Our guide took us to local homes, a monastery ceremony, artisanal raksi. For those who want to truly understand Nepal beyond the mountains, this is the right trek.)
