What is included in the $120 ultralight flight price?

The price covers a 20-minute scenic ultralight flight with a qualified pilot, hotel pickup and drop-off within Pokhara, all fuel and equipment costs, and a short pre-flight briefing. An optional GoPro video recording of the flight is available for an additional fee at the airfield. Taxes and safety charges are included in the listed price.

Is it safe, and do I need any aviation experience?

Ultralight flights are conducted by licensed pilots with extensive local flight experience, and the aircraft are regularly inspected to civil aviation standards. No experience is required — you sit as a passenger in a two-seat open cockpit aircraft. The pilot handles all controls. The main health caution is avoiding the flight if you have a serious heart condition or acute fear of open-cockpit aircraft.

When and where does the flight operate?

Flights depart from Pokhara Airport (the small domestic terminal) or a dedicated ultralight airstrip nearby, usually in the early morning when thermals are calmest and visibility is sharpest. The full excursion including transfers and briefing takes 2–3 hours. You are back at your hotel well before midday.

When is the best time of year for ultralight flights over Pokhara?

October through April offers the clearest skies and best mountain visibility. Winter mornings (December–February) often produce the most dramatic views of snow-covered Annapurna and Dhaulagiri with no haze. The monsoon season (June–September) sees frequent cloud and cancellations; we reschedule flights at no charge when weather prevents safe flying.

How does the view compare to paragliding, and what will I actually see?

The ultralight aircraft flies faster and at a different altitude profile to paragliding — reaching up to 3,000m on clear days — bringing you significantly closer to the Annapurna massif, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri than a standard paragliding flight achieves. You see Pokhara city, Phewa Lake, the Seti River gorge, and the full arc of the Annapurna range stretching east to west.

Why choose the ultralight flight over paragliding if both depart from Pokhara?

The ultralight aircraft covers more distance and gets closer to the mountain faces — it is the better choice if mountain proximity and aerial photography are priorities. Paragliding lasts longer (30 min vs 20 min of airtime) and gives a quieter, gliding sensation closer to the lake. Transfer to Pokhara's ultralight airstrip near Lakeside (820m). Safety briefing and weight check before boarding the open-cockpit microlight aircraft with your experienced pilot.
